AN URBAN REFUGE
GROVE RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX
The Grove is a re-imagining of Cairo living. With an over-load of residential developments sprouting up all over the country, The Grove aims to introduce a truly new concept of community living, one that mimics the comfort, privacy and intimacy of Nordic communities, and the enhancement of nature- inspired living, whilst overlooking the Great Pyramids of Giza. Built as a Lego-like residential cluster, this single building comprises of one, two and three story homes, all enhanced with either ground floor gardens or large roof-top gardens, as well as large well-lit courtyards. The clustering formation of this residential building, along with the large central spine common courtyard cutting through its entire length, intentionally enhances natural cross ventilation through each and every one of the 15 residential units. All guests can enjoy their private shaded and well-vegetated courtyards, gardens and roof gardens as well as the common public
areas, pool-side decks and sunken green outdoor cinema. There will also be the addition of an outdoor gym and multiple serviced- apartment facilities such as an on-site launder-mat, cleaning services and staff- accommodation. The Grove encourages its residents to seek refuge within the hectic noise and pollution of the city, whilst enhancing familiarity with their own neighbours within the complex. HIGH-PERFORMANCE ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGIES/ Enhanced cross-ventilation / Outer louvres for protection from excessive heat-gain and glare / Multiple courtyards for natural day-light and enhanced cross ventilation / Large central courtyard for natural day-lighting and enhanced cross-ventilation / Extensive vegetation to filter air and sound pollution and enhance air quality, whilst cooling the outdoor shaded areas / Double walls with foam gaps to enhance building envelope’s performance and delay transfer of heat and cold into the interior spaces.
