A NATURE-INSPIRED HAVEN TUCKED BETWEEN DESERT & SEA
WADI SABARAH HOTEL
Wadi Sabarah is a 5-star boutique hotel and eco-lodge that is rethinking the concept of hospitality on the Red Sea to follow a more environmentally conscious lifestyle and experience. With its striking topography and proximity to the sea, Wadi Sabarah will deliver a first-class viewing experience that will provide a rich and exclusive atmosphere for its guests as well as tours to experience the local cultural heritage and tribal regions nearby. The project was developed in three parts. The first part was originally designed by another architect that incorporates the main building and nine guest rooms on the edge of the wadi as well as a buffer room suite on the land boundary and a village like cluster of guest room units. The first part was originally designed by another architect that incorporates the main building and nine guest rooms on the edge of the wadi as well as a buffer room suite on the land boundary and a village like cluster
of guest room units. KAL was commissioned to complete the design and development of the main building and the other two parts of the project: Extension 01 and Extension 02. Both surround the main building and provide the majority of guest rooms for the hotel. HIGH-PERFORMANCE ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGIES/ Unlike the main building’s reinforced concrete structure, Extension 01 and 02 are constructed structurally with natural stone wall bearing structures designed to withstand extreme heat conditions with 80 cm thick walls. The planning organization of the guest rooms and passageways was intentionally designed to create a wind tunnel directed to the cool prevailing winds to penetrate the passageways with sufficient barriers to reduce wind intensity. The dominant scaled arcades of the passageways and courtyards allow sufficient daylight yet protects users from the extreme heat both in the passageways and the guest rooms.
